Signs it's time to replace your carpet
In some cases, changing your carpet can be expensive and time consuming, so it can be sometimes tempting to put it off a little longer than you should.
If you are unsure whether the time is right to replace your carpet then there are a few factors that indicate that perhaps your flooring is ready for an overhaul.
Unfortunately, ageing carpets can start to smell, particularly if you have pets, and if you have neglected to conduct regular cleaning over the years. Odours tend to penetrate deep into the carpet fibres and are difficult to eliminate. If your carpet is giving off an unpleasant smell that cannot be removed by cleaning alone then it is usually time for an upgrade.
If your carpet has been fitted for a number of years then it may have become stained. Food, dirt, and if you have pets, possibly urine stains, absorb into the carpet padding and can look unsightly. If your carpet is significantly stained, and these stains are hard to shift then it is probably time to replace it - or perhaps it is time to consider an alternative solution such as hard flooring or vinyl.
As they age all carpets are subjected to wear and tear. Small tears can usually be patched up although larger tears are harder to disguise. In addition, some carpets, particularly those made from polyester, tend to lose their form as they age. If your carpet has been laid for many years and is looking decidedly shabby then a new carpet could be in order.
Generally, it is time to take the plunge and order a new carpet if your existing one is harbouring bad smells that can be smelt throughout the room, has been subjected to stains that have proven difficult to remove, and has been laid for many years resulting in significant wear and tear.
